The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi arrived on a two-day visit to the A&N Islands here this evening. The visit of the Prime Minister is part of the 75th Anniversary celebration of Hoisting of Tricolor by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Indian soil on 30th December 1943 at Port Blair. The Union Minister of State for Communication Independent Charge, Shri Manoj Sinha is also accompanying the Prime Minister during his visit to the Isles.
On his arrival at the airport, the Prime Minister was greeted by the Lt. Governor A&N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, VSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Command-in-Chief of Andaman & Nicobar Command, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, the Chief Sectary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan. B. Sanghi, DGP Shri Dependra Pathak and other Senior Officers of A&N Administration, besides the Prabhari, BJP A&N Island, Shri Tarun Chugh, State President BJP Shri Vishal Jolly, Ex-President of BJP A&N Islands Shri Hari Naryan Arora, PBMC Chairperson Smti Anusia Devi and other office bearers of BJP A&N Islands. Soon after arrival, the Prime Minister met some delegations, who called on him, in the lounge of the Airport.
On 30 December 2018, the Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Car Nicobar in the morning where his itinerary includes laying a wreath at the Tsunami Memorial, lighting candle at the Wall of Lost Souls, and visit of the Museum at Tsunami Memorial. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to interact with Members of the Tribal Council and address the public at BJP Stadium.
People from different parts of the Nicobar Group of Islands are reaching Car Nicobar to attend the public function. At Port Blair, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the National Memorial, Cellular Jail, and wreath at the Martyrs Column in the afternoon. Thereafter, he is scheduled to dedicate the 150 ft. high Flag Mast at South Point, Port Blair commemorating the historic event of the hoisting of the first Tricolor on Indian soil by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at Port Blair on 30 December 1943. Police and Naval Bands will play the National Anthem from a Pontoon anchored in the sea nearby, befitting the occasion.
After paying floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhash Chander Bose at Marina Park, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a public function at the historic Netaji Stadium where he is expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for series of projects for the A&N Islands.
During this program, the Prime Minister is expected to release a Commemorative Coin with the denomination of Rs 75/- on the themes of Cellular Jail along with the first tricolor hoisting by Netaji. The Commemorative Coin epitomizes the quintessential spirit of that golden moment in history when Netaji declared the Islands as the first Indian Territory to be freed from the British Raj.
The Prime Minister may also release Commemorative Stamp and First Day Cover on this occasion. The projects expected to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister during the public function at Netaji Stadium include 7MWp Solar Power Plant, Solar Village in South Andaman, Industrial Training Institute, Car Nicobar, State Wide Area Network Project (SWAN), etc. Besides the dedication of Port Meadow and Electric Cars are also scheduled.
The Prime Minister is also likely to lay foundation stones for different projects which include Chennai and Andaman & Nicobar Islands (CANI) Submarine Cable Connectivity Project, 50MW LNG Power Plant at Hope Town, Port Blair, Shore Projection work at Mus-village, Car Nicobar, Upgradation of Campbell Bay Jetty, Great Nicobar Island, Waste to Energy Plasma Regasification Plant, Port Blair, Up-gradation of Primary Health Center to District Hospital, Garacharma, Port Blair and 50 bedded AYUSH Hospital t Junglighat, Port Blair.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of first flag hoisting by Netaji on Indian soil, the A&N Administration is organizing a cultural program on the themes of patriotism at the Netaji Stadium from 02:00 PM dated 31 December 2018.
The cultural program will continue after the address of the Prime Minister. People have been invited to attend this public function at Netaji Stadium and requested to reach the venue at 02:00 Pm. A singer of celebrations came, some singers of Indian Ideal also came and entertained us. A Traffic advisory has been issued by the Police to regulate vehicular movement and also to guide the pedestrians destined to attend the function. The entry for the general public is from Marina Park.
In order to enable people from different parts of the Islands reach Port Blair, The Directorates of Shipping Services and Transport have made elaborate arrangements. They are plying a number of ships and buses from all parts of the Islands to ferry the public, free of cost. Security forces have also made elaborate security arrangements for smooth conduct of this Mega Function.
He also unveiled a series of development projects related to the energy, connectivity, and health sectors. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are not just a symbol of India’s natural beauty, but are also like a place of pilgrimage for Indians. He said the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remind us of the collective resolve of our freedom fighters.
On this occasion, he announced that Ross Island would now be named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep; Neil Island would be known as Shaheed Dweep, and Havelock Island would be renamed as SwarajDweep. The Prime Minister said that today, Indians are working towards creating a strong India, in line with Netaji’s vision.
The Prime Minister said efforts are being made to make the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as self-sufficient as possible. He spoke of the expansion of Port Blair dockyard, which will enable the maintenance of big ships. He called for a report on the condition of rural roads in the Islands within two weeks and said that once the report has been examined, the Union Government will give whatever assistance is possible.
The Prime Minister said that a new Integrated Terminal Building is coming up at Veer Savarkar International Airport. He said the undersea optical fiber cable from Chennai, once completed, would provide good internet connectivity. He also spoke of development works in areas such as water, power, clean energy, and health.
